From Corporate America to Full-Time Fitness Professional

After completing my degree in business, I worked for several large companies, including Northrop Corporation and R. J. Reynolds Tobacco, Inc. Fitness was just something I did part-time to keep myself in shape and to relieve the stress of my day to day life. As the stress of the corporate world took its toll, I enrolled in more fitness classes and decided to get certified as a personal trainer and nutritionist. I loved what I was doing and decided to 'go for it'! I left the corporate world for good and went into fitness full-time. While I knew I was pursuing my passion, it would take overcoming my own body and health issues to truly carve out my life’s purpose.


Wellness Journey

I was an obese child and went through many hardships due to my size. Growing up in California where everyone is thin didn’t help my self-esteem--- I just never felt like I fit in. By the time I was 18, I was overweight and depressed, so dieting seemed like the only solution. I resorted to diet pills and fell into a dangerous cycle of diet pill addiction and overexercising-- whatever would stop me from eating and help me shed weight.

Several years later, when I got pregnant, I blew up to a whopping 205 pounds. Once my daughter was born, I knew I had to make healthier changes. I was starting over, but this time, was determined to lose weight the “right way.”

With regular diet and exercise, I lost 40 pounds but could not seem to drop the remaining 40 pounds I was carrying around. Despite becoming a vegetarian, cutting my calories and exercising five days a week, my body fat was still high and I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic.

I knew my system was off when I trained for a marathon and only lost 5 pounds. My energy levels were poor and I had major digestive and allergy issues. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I knew I needed a new approach.
