There are three components to our exercise programs.  The warm-up, aerobic exercise period, and a cool-down period.  The warm-up is very important to prevent injuries.  It brings blood to the muscles, readying them for exercise. The warm up period should also include stretching and flexibility movements to prevent muscle and tendon tears.

The exercise period is divided into two types: isometric exercises in which stress is created against stationary muscles, Isometric exercises are used to tone up specific muscles which are performed by pushing or pulling immovable objects or by contracting or tightening opposing muscles .  Isotonic exercises such as calisthenics or running, produce muscular resistance through a range of movement.  To achieve maximum cardiovascular benefits from aerobic exercise, you must elevate your heartbeat to approximately 70% of your maximum heart rate for a specific amount of time.  A formula is used to calculate your maximum heart rate.

Yoga, tai chi, and meditation are recommended for relaxation exercise.  Hatha Yoga is the most popular form of Yoga practice.  If none of these forms of relaxation work for you, we can research other methods which will better suit you.

Different blood types need different forms of physical activity, or exercise to cope with their responses to stress. The FOCUS plan includes a description of your own blood type stress patterns, along with the recommended course of exercise that will turn stress into a positive force.

Dexter really did a great job at the Performance Workshop.  I'm really going to need the Flexibility Workshop tomorrow.  Entire body feels like every muscle has been used.  Even muscles I didn't know I had.  Thanks Dex!

Hang Gliding 2011
